Optimizing Team Relationships: Part 3 of 5
Promote and agree on your Team’s Brand: It’s all too easy for the whole team to get focused on doing the work and lose sight of how your team is perceived by the whole company in terms of being ‘easy to work with.’ To assess the current state, go to your stakeholders and ask them what their perception is of your team brand.
Responses may be:
- Your team is known across the company as a ‘high performing, collaborative’ team.
- Your team is known as a ‘toxic, nobody wants to work with team.’
- Your team seems NOT to know how to get anything done!
- Your team is a team that everyone wants to be a part of!
Developing our Team Brand is a critical component to helping to build the most optimal team relationships! The bottom line is you have to have a healthy team brand! It means everything in terms of having the respect and credibility you need to ‘be heard’ throughout the Enterprise! Emitting the ‘proper’ team brand requires intention and focus if you are to maintain,
a consistent, high level brand perception across the company. Take time to determine the following with your team:
- How do we want the team to be perceived across the company?
- What are the key characteristics we want the team to be known for throughout the company?
- How is the Team currently being perceived today?
- What do we need to do to close the gap between current perception and optimal perception?
- How do we make sure we successfully are meeting our Team Brand?
Just as much effort needs to be focused on Team Brand Building as getting the work done. Your Team Brand is the team’s reputation across the company. Harness core values. Seek stakeholder feedback. Be pro-active. The best team’s work diligently at creating a positive team brand and image within the organization.
