Does Anything Else Matter Right Now?
Who could have imagined the current state of Global Affairs at this very moment? Covid-
19 continues to run rampant across the globe, oil is hovering around $27 dollars a barrel1, and over 10 million workers filed for unemployment in the span of two weeks.2
There is no greater time in recent history to do everything within our power, no matter how difficult it might be for some, to regain and/or keep perspective.
Me and my 10 brothers and sisters are familiar with times of uncertainty, volatility and where there are ‘no guarantees.’ Along with my mom (passed away when I was 12), we were suddenly uprooted from Vietnam one day before the ‘Fall of Saigon,’ back in 1975. We had nothing except a few bags of clothes. We set off by boat for Korea and then eventually ended up in the States after a period of a few months. We lost everything; our
home, our family (left 2 sisters behind), and our country. Our only choice was to fall victim to our circumstance or become a victor to it. We chose to become ‘victors’ and stay as safe, healthy, productive and positive as possible. I offer the same perspective for you all today, no matter how difficult. This difficult and challenging time will eventually pass. The key is to not lose hope, ever.

Stay Safe
My mom had to make a choice back in 1975. Stay in war torn Vietnam with her entire
family or ensure the safety of at least 8 out of 10 of her kids and leave. She chose the latter. And because of that choice, all 10 of us continue to be alive today.
Safety first is the mantra that all of us should focus on during this Covid-19 episode. Safety for family. Safety for loved ones. Safety for yourself. Yes, the choices and sacrifices you are making are hard. But looking back on your choice a year from today, you won’t regret that you did focus on safety.
Stay Healthy
You being sick does no good for anyone, especially during these trying times. I want to be
clear on something when I speak about your health. I’m not just talking about your physical health. I’m also talking about your mental and spiritual health as well!
Yes, do what you need to do physically to not catch Covid-19 but at the same time and probably even more important, do what you need to do to keep your mental capacities at a peak and do what you need to do to keep your spiritual capacities at a peak. It’s all to easy to let these things slide and get trapped and sucked into negative and fear creating media! Don’t let this happen to you! Everyday, focus on feeding your mind, soul and physical health. Put in your calendar and do it!
Stay Productive
My heart goes out to all of those who have lost their job during these trying times. I can
only imagine your state of panic and helplessness right now. It’s so easy for me to say but it’s critical that you remain as active and productive as possible until this world normalizes again.
Like worry, feeling and focusing on the helpless state is not going to help you resolve your current crisis. Although the governments are trying to create some reprieve for folks, it couldn’t come soon enough and simply waiting around is not the approach I recommend.
If you haven’t already, make out a 2 month ‘survival plan,’ pull out all stops, and day by day, take action. Involve others to help you. And no matter what, DON’T do this alone! The reality is that you are not alone.
Reach out to me if you don’t have someone to soundboard with, really! You are NOT
alone!
Stay Positive
Last but definitely not least, stay positive, no matter what!
We left 2 sisters behind when we escaped Vietnam back in 1975. My father was stranded in Australia. My mom was only 32 years old and the youngest of the 8 was only a month old. We lost our home, we lost our family members, we lost our country and we had no idea
what was going to happen to us tomorrow let alone a few days down the road. My mom
focused on one thing, HOPE.
I define HOPE as ‘Having Only Positive Energy.’ Candidly, HOPE comes by having the IN THE NOW focus. STOP worrying about tomorrow and START focusing on what you can do today. STOP focusing and wallowing in the fear and START focusing on the positive
and what you can do to affect and impact today. You don’t have to ‘eat the entire elephant’
simply focus on being productive and positive today.
Give yourself benefit of the doubt and know that for most of us, we WILL get through this. Remember, God doesn’t make junk! You are infinitesimally more than today’s current
situation!
